We have been lucky enough to secure a demo unit from our friends at Blueant and I have to say it is an amazing device.
I have to say, I was a little sceptical of how any device could totally block out the loud background noises of a motor bike engine not to mention the gushing wind, but the Blueant DSP (Digital Signal Processor) is truly amazing. Blueant advertise their DSP as world class and it really is.
To start with, it was very easy to set up. It comes with both strong double sided tap which is what I used to get it going nice and quick, and also a bracket to allow you to screw the device on the edge of your helmet (note the screws don?t screw into the actual helmet They clamp around the outside edge, see the pics below) It has a cushion to stop it scratching your helmet and even comes with a little screw driver to make installation easy. The interphone is designed for use on both full face and open face helmets.
Once I stuck the device on the outside of my helmet, it was then a matter of positioning the headset inside the helmet. It took me a few times to get the optimum position. I found the best way to do it was to put the helmet on and then push the foam on the inside of the helmet to the side while sliding the headset in, Doing all of this while talking to someone to ensure the speaker was in the best location. The Speaker also has velcro on the back to secure it in place. This is secure enough not to move at all when pulling it on and off.
I made my first call in the office and it worked extremely well. The volume control and multi function buttons were easy to use even while wearing gloves.
Next, out on the road for a proper test. The unit performed far above my expectations. The voice activation is a fantastic feature. Basically when a call comes in, You can choose to accept it or reject it without having to touch the unit at all. To answer the call you just have to say something into the mic while the phone is ringing, otherwise just stay nothing and it wil let the phone ring out and divert to voice mail.
I was pretty surprised at the quality of the conversaions i had. The people I spoke to were amazed I was riding my bike. No one could here the any background noise of the wind.
Although I didn?t test this feature, the intercom feature which allows a rider to talk to their passenger within 150 metres is a really neat idea.
This means you can even have a conversation with a friend on a seperate bike which would make communication over long rides a breeze.
Backed up by Blueats 2 year warranty, this headset is a must for any serious bike rider.
